- Today Donetsk is dynamically developing megapolis with high industrial and scientific potential, highly skilled workers and specialists, developed infrastructure and production base. One of the largest Ukrainian industrial cities occupies territory 358 sq kilometres with population more than 1 million people.
- There are 196 enterprises in the city with production output more than 7 billion UAH per year. About 116,5 thousand people work there. Main branches are coal (14%), metallurgical (32,7%), machinery (19,7%), food (23,4%).
- Coal industry is placed in seven districts. This industrial complex includes 16 coal mining enterprises, 2 concentrating mills and briquette factories with 38 thousands workers. Discovered reserves of anthracite coal of producting mines make 798,8 million tons, including coke-coal - 505 million tons, thermal - a 262,6 million tons. In 2003 8,1 million tons of ordinary coal are planned to mine.
- Coal deposits of the city are characterized by complex mining and-geological development conditions: low width of coal layer, stratification depth, high gas content, liability of layers to sudden flow of coal dust and gas. The most part coal mining is on А. Zasyadko mine. It is the most powerful and promising enterprise mines about 4 million tons of the coke coal "Ж" mark per year. Commercial reserves are 110,7 million tons at middle layer width 1,2 meters. The second leading mining enterprise is "Donbass" extracts coke coal of "OS" mark and thermal "Т" mark. Discovered reserves are 49,2 million tons at middle layer width 1,01 meters.
On territory of city there are 9 enterprises of black metallurgy, produce cast-iron, steel, bar iron and flats (more than 280), hollow billets from carbon, constructional, alloyed quality and high-quality steel grades.
Metall produktion meets the international standards requirements. It is main export 50 percents potential of the city.
Works on production modernization, assortment update and realization of investment projects are carried out within the framework of Ukraine Law "About the special economic areas and investment activity in Donetsk region ".
The leading plant is joint stock company "Donetsk metallurgical plant". Variety of steel grades are smelted here — alloy, low-alloy and bearing. Hollow billet steel-making iron, more than 200 mill products varieties, massive plates are produceda also. Plant production is widely used in many branches of Ukrainian industry and is in demand abroad.
Mini-metallurgical "Ystyl (Ukraine)" produce the following export goods: cast section and mill products. The enterprise works out the investment project "Modernization of metallurgical complex". Its implementation will improve its quality significantly, decrease discharge harmful matters in the air, diminish production cost, multiply the export volume of deliveries and keep 1554 workplaces.
"Donetskkoks OJSC" brings out 20 types of coke-chemical products. It is the first plant in the world that mastered the processes of technical sulphureous ammonium production. Here were inculcated:…, swinging feeders for getting of coke from footlights and row of other technologies.
Machine-building complex of the city is represented by 64 enterprises. Priority development is well…, that correspond to mining industry necessities - "Donetskgormash", Rutchenkovskii "Gormash", "Buran", Petrovskii machine plant and "Experiment". Leaders of producrion volume are "North", "Tochmash", "Topaz" and "Universal equipment" plant.
“Donetskgormash" is an enterprise with serial and individual production of equipment for the open mining of minerals such as rotor power-shovels, loaders, stackers, band conveyers; for mines such as mine-ifting machines, ventilators, centrifugal sectional pumps, loading-transporting machines and others. This technique successfully works in Ukraine and Russia (Kuzbass, Norylsk, Ekybastuz), and also in 28 countries of distant foreign.
The trade mark "Nord" is a high quality guarantee for refrigerators, deep-freezers, gas cookers, and different home appliances including washing machines, conditioners, and their accessories (electric motors for kitchen units, air-inductive blocks for vacuum cleaners) and other products. Production capacities allow to produce about 1 million refrigerators and deep-freezers of 13 brands in a year. "Nord" TM exports its production to Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Germany, France, Italy and other countries. As a result of implementation of conversion technologies positive changes have affected enterprises of a military-industrial complex. "Tochmasch" OAO has assimilated the production and continues to expand the product range of agricultural, oil and cotton machinery and hydrocylinders.
"Topaz" ОАО is a company, which in the past was a defence enterprise. High technologies of defence enterprises provided their unique specialization such as development and serial production of the most complicated radio engineering systems and complexes of special purpose, radio engineering products of technical and universal application, delivery of radio-electronic and radio engineering means of struggle and control. "Topaz" has also successfully assimilated the manufacture of TVs.
"Donetskiy zavod gornospasatelnogo oborudovaniya” factory of the " AO (“Donetsk factory of the mine-rescue equipment” JSC) makes modern reliable and qualitative equipment for life-saving operations in mines, on fires, by natural disasters, and also means of individual rescue for personnel in mining, chemical, metallurgical and other industries. Its production was successfully recognized in 33 countries abroad and is rival to equipment made by lead western companies.
The factory "Universalnoye oborudovanye", organised in 1990, develops newest technologies for metallurgical and machine-building industries. It produces a powder wire for processing of metallurgical molten metals and auxiliaries for its input in liquid metal. The factory has developed a technology of out-furnace processing of metal by powder wire.
“Donetskiy zavod vysokovoltnyh opor” OAO (“Donetsk factory of high-voltage supports") is the only company in Ukraine, which manufactures the supports with anticorrosive covering. The staff of the factory has a great experience of manufacturing of supports for power lines from low up to a ultrahigh voltage (32 - 150 kilovolt) designed for any climatic conditions from Sahara deserts (+ 45°C) up to the Arctic areas with a permafrost (-65°C). All construction elements are hot-zinced, the thickness of covering is from 0,09 up to 0,16 mm that guarantees a high corrosive resistance during 25 - 30 years. The enterprise supplies production already during 30 years in 20 countries of the world. Its export makes 75 percent.
Donetsk is a great supplier of various chemical production. These are mineral fertilizers, boric acid, sulfate of ammonium, water ammonia for various purposes, acetic acid, washing pastes, different paint and varnish products. More than 80 years the production of the Donetsk Factory of Chemical Reagents is a highly quoted abroad and in Ukraine. Among its production range are inorganic chemical reactants and substances of special pure. The basic production range of the enterprise includes over 800 names.
Their application is rather wide: it is medicine and pharmacy, electrotechnical and radio engineering also research activity and analytical practice. Special pure substances are used in fiber optics, technics, aircraft construction, in nuclear engineering, rocket production, manufacture of monocrystals and artificial stones.
The Donetsk State Factory of Chemical Products was early known for manufacture of industrial explosives and military equipment of artillery, engineering, aviation and also elements of dynamic protection of armoured technics. Its products were military and destroying. But another time came and "peace" production made in its shops began to appear on the market. There were children carriages, plastic toys, textile linoleum, foam plastic, and also vacuum cleaners of high comfort.
The new stage in the activity of the factory was opened in 2002 when the factory occupied with recycling of anti-tank mines. The NATO has given that order to the factory as the enterprise that has all necessary conditions for realization of this rather difficult process.
Our city is also famous as the manufacturer of various food productions. The agroindustrial complex of the city with its leading enterprises “Teplichniy” OOO, "Proleatrskaya Poultry Farm ", "Donetskiy" APK, "Bekon" APK are reliable partners in this business To feed a million city is not easy. The important thing here is to offer a high-quality production.
The enterprises of food and processed industry have proved in practice, that they are good enough to provide city with the food production of their own manufacture, namely, with sausage products, meat products, bakery, confectionery, pasta, whole-milk products, mayonnaise, soft drinks and ice-cream. To successfully working enterprises belong in Donetsk: "Kiev-Konti" JVC, "Bulochno-konditerskiy kombinat", joint-stock company" OAO (JSC), “Donetsk Bake Factory” AO, Joint-Stock Company "Мarg-West" JSC, "АVК" JSC, "Sarmat" JSC.
“Agrotorg-3” and “Vozrozhdenie” JVC have increased the volume of manufacture of meat and sausage products in two times in comparison with year of 2001. "Sarmat" JSC began to produce 13,8 million decilitre of beer and 52,7 thousand decilitre of drinks in a year. The quality of five brands of Donetsk beer was marked by international prestigious awards on the exhibitions and festivals. "Sarmat" was the first in Ukraine who had started the release of wheaten beer, and also introduced a new brand of beer - "Sarmat non-alcoholic".
Gourmets have already noticed the high quality of Donetsk confectionery products of "АVК". They are always tasty, various and in bright covers. Our production is well-known not only in Donbass. In Zakarpatye, on Bukovina, in Kharkov and Sumy, in our capital, the city of Kiev sweets, cookies, waffle sticks are always in popular demand.
There is also a great variety of bakery production. Bakehouses produce up to 30 names of long loafs, rolls and croissants.
Admiring people notice that all in Donbass can be made in a right way. We can mine black coal and bake golden like the sun round loaf from our gold wheat.
